examples of zines/books

i really liked these examples on the printing pictures presentation of zines/books- i like the idea of with a zine/book, the pieces of work are separate (pages) but are as one.

this one reminds me of my idea of visually communicating lewis Carrols imagination by gradually adding information to the same drawings to show imagination.

eleanor suggested that i research zines and books on the no-brow website and see what type of books/zines are created and sold in the industry.

Dionisia Tzavalas, a recent graduate of the Kingston Illsutration BA, has created a beautiful book detailing snippets of life in the urban sprawl of her native South East London. Her images are full of tension and loneliness and although somewhat brutal in their depictions of human relationships they show a wry humour and even a tenderness which is what makes this book so pleasing. Screenprinted by hand in black ink on white paper, this edition is of only 50 copies signed and numbered by Dionisia herself. The book all also features an unfolding dust jacket.

Kavel Rafferty created SPAM HEAD; portraits based on the strange and sometimes wonderful names that arrive uninvited in her email inbox every day, trying to sell her designer replica watches, viagra and other such nonsense. She wanted to make portraits for these funny faceless folk and so started to hand draw in pen and then scan the reverse side of the paper with her faithful old scanner in order to get the desired fuzzy quality of line.
Kavel Rafferty is an English illustrator who lives and works in Barcelona. She combines drawing, found imagery, print and paint to create unique images of real emotional resonance and genuine charm. Her inspirations and interests – like rare old soul 45s, flea markets and vintage shop signs and type – help inform her distinctively bittersweet, elegantly nostalgic style. Kavel has been asked to create works for everybody from The Times and The Observer to Conde Nast Traveller, Topshop, Paperchase and Selfridges. She also runs her own small exhibition space in Barcelona, Galeria Kavel

however one idea i liked from my sketch book work was repeated pattern and image,
and wondered weather i could do a book of several pages of repeated pattern with a linked concept to he's life and literature.

or weather this idea would be best for the brief :a set series of sequence of 5-10 prints.

Seven of the Thirty stunning patterns in Nobrow 5: A Few of our Favourite Things have been selected to be transformed into wrapping paper and other gift products and this gorgeous design by Jill Green features her beautiful trademark bird designs.
