i produced these test prints using clear plastic. though this were perfect to see through to copy my drawing, the plastic was quite thick which made it harder to take through the print press which increases the risk of the plate snapping in half when taking it through the press. another problem i had with this plait is that though it felt smooth, it was not as polished as the white plate which meant it was hard to wipe all the ink off the plate i did not want, making the final print look quite grubby.
below i have testing on more plastic. i choose this plastic because again i could see through and also it is more flexible and thinner therefore will be easier to take through the press.
again i found this very hard to remove all the excess ink. this print seemed to have a rougher texture which meant the ink got stuck in the grains leaving a grainy texture when printing. to make sure i wasn't ruling this plate out to soon i did a second tester next to my first (the lighter mark above) and removed more ink (as much as i could) however though this made for a less grubby print, it got rid of the ink out of the groves so the etch lost detail.
what to do next: i think my best bet is to go with the clear plate but to find one which is smoother (more polished) to make it easier to remove excess ink.
