session With Aly (dsa Session)

i discussed my research with aly to see we could develop it further in my session, and hopefully have a more direct brief to work to.

 notes
if its frames- its art. we notice it.
'what is art'

everything needs to be designed

its function dictates how we use it. we only see things that are functional. form function design- not art, just something we use. got to serve a purpose.

idea to illustrate the onto products we use everyday

  • heads around a mirror,
  • flannel with faces on
  • biscuits on a biscuit tin

michael gove - trying to get rid of art from the cariculum
'Michael Gove and the coalition government have set in place policies which marginalise the arts, restrict access to arts courses by children and which will, over time, threaten the future of our artistic success story. They include:
• The EBacc, a measure that excludes all arts subjects, as well as technical subjects, compelling all schools to restrict access to arts courses or risk failing on a league table.'
but art is in everything we do, everywhere we go . wallpaper in our house, road signs, packaging. etc - maybe for functional objects but they all have a form/design.

we see so much all the time - we dont stop and capture moments in time to reflect the composition of things.

rob ryan:
started as paper cut artist producing pieces  - now everywhere,

  • tea towels
  •  bags
  • wallpaper
  • books
  •  t shirts
  • greeting cards
  • cushions

however now not as much concept as he is just wanting to sell.

exploring materials, creative design for everyday object: taking objects and using them for other things.
