i really love all 3 of the line techniques these illustrators (above) use. below i have attempted to take inspiration from there methods and produce my own experiments.
similar to Judith van den hoek, i have used different length bold lines to create the illusion of the woman's shirt. i like how the compact lines gives the shape of the shirt without it having to be outlined.
i have combined that with detailed pencil work to show the contrast between skin and clothes.
i felt the pencil grey subtle colour looked odd next to the intensity of the black, also because the shirt design was complex and detailed, the use of detail in the hair and skin was not needed, i think it made the piece a bit to busy and over worked.
for this illustration i have carried on using the bold lines as i really like this effect, however i decided to used a fine liner to add detail instead of the pencil. by limiting the amount of detail i add made the bold lines stand out more. i have also played around with using the fine liner to outline shades of the face instead of shading them in to represent shadow.
