first thoughts- my first thoughts when looking at the quote ' life is the art of drawing, without any eraser' was thinking about life in general, and how we are always changing, growing older and this cannot be changed. this made me think of the idea of how skin ages, which can be shown with wrinkles, making you think of the idea to draw the progress of age from a baby to an elderly person showing the wrinkles being drawn on in the illustration itself.
Another idea was to question this quote, and show how life can be erased by death.
this idea is showing a literal meaning to the quote, illustrating a man trying to rub out his past.
this idea is showing a literal meaning to the quote, illustrating a man trying to rub out his past.
First idea- I developed the idea of 'rubbing out your past' by adding more stereotypical words that happen in a lifespan ( falling in love, break-ups, getting married, etc.) to the illustration, i thought this would represent that idea of 'life' from the quote. I decided to draw the illustration in the landscape format, as I think this fits the 'lifespan' concept, I also thought it would exaggerate fact that the figure has already tried to rub out the previous words, but has failed as he is now at the end, the words are still there.
second idea- taking the idea of lifespan from the first idea, I decided to develop it by using ' photographs' which would sum up these stereotypical lifespan words, as I thought this would make the illustration more visually interesting, and would also fit the brief better-( image as communication)
to incorporate the idea of a person trying to raise these memories,i have added a figure trying to reach the photograph to take it down of the line(lifeline) but failing- showing how life is something you cannot erase.
first idea sticking with the idea of photographs, i made the illusion in this idea, that wherever person goes,a trail of photographs(memories) will be left behind, I decided to use photographs as a metaphor to memories as photographs are a physical thing you can see (therefore cannot be eraser) unlike memories, and photographs are something that can capture memories.
second idea- here I started to think about memories in general, which made me think about elephants-'elephants never forget' i thought i would use a image of a elephant to illustate the idea of never being able to forgot/ or erase memories. to incorporate the idea of drawing from the quote i illustrated the elephant drawing the word life.
