Evaluation
Throughout this first module I feel I have
developed skills such as thinking fast to produce a number of ideas, something
I have struggled with, yet now feel able to do after practicing to do so in
each brief set. I also feel fast thinking has made me think ‘outside of the box’,
and push my ideas further, instead of settling for initial ideas I thought
where good to begin with. By making myself look at them differently and
changing certain aspects, I feel my ideas have become a lot better and my
initial concepts have become stronger.
From this brief alone, I feel I have
developed my experimental skills. One thing I was lacking in previous briefs
was experimenting with medias; instead I settled for a media I knew would work
as I had practiced them a lot in the past. This time around I gave myself
enough time to test out other methods until I found the most effective, such as
collage, fine line, Photoshop, watercolor wash and pen Etc. After finding methods I thought were
effective I also mixed these together to experiment what affect I would get.
This is something I have always been apprehensive to do from fear of mistake
or/and affects not working and therefore wasting time I could of used to
develop other aspects of my illustration.
I feel one strength in
this particular project is how I developed and took on bored ideas from the mid
way group crit. Up until now, I appreciated the comments received but did not
tend to acted upon all the advice given to me. Before
this crit I felt I had come to a artist block, and could not get a hold of an
idea that really excited me, yet after the group looked at my current
ideas/concept, they gave me the advice and confidence in my ideas to make me
want to pursue them, such as how I could incorporate tattoos into a initial
idea, this concept really excited me and made me want to develop it further.
Now being at the end of the module I feel I
now have a process which works for producing the work needed, it had taken me
these 3 briefs to uncover my downfall's, know
where I have gone wrong and what I need to do next time. I feel this last brief
has definitely been my strongest so far in terms of time management and
covering certain aspects of the criteria, I feel I have learned from my
mistakes in the other 2 briefs. For example, in previous projects I feel I spent too long on the
concept development stage, taking it right up until the last few days, though
this meant I had a lot of concepts to choose from, it did not leave me with a
lot of time to develop the media of my ideas, which can be a vital part in the
idea/concept development itself.
Weaknesses I have found over all 3 briefs
was dealing with the mandatory requirements asked of me, especially with these
last 2 brief’s, I found we were given quite a lot of freedom with things such
as stock colours, paper size, colours used etc. Though I have enjoyed the freedom
when completing my final resolutions, I found it very difficult to dive in and
think off initial ideas as
I had a variety of roots I could take, I felt overwhelmed and therefore didn’t
know where to start.
