after looking at hope gangloffs work i was excited to experiment with mixed media or other medias to create figures. in the image above i have ust used layers of card to try and build up tone and texture to parts fo the figure. though this was a quick play around, i think this method would be quite effective however i think the figure work/picure i need to create is a bit to complex for this method as it requires small details.
here i have tried mixing both collage and pen together (pen for details needed and collage to show textures in clothes) i really like this! i think it makes the picture look more visually interesting and also saves time instead of trying to draw all the small details in the clothing. it also differentiates between a skin texture i am showing with pen, and a clothes/material texture i am trying to show with paper.
though i liked the previous experiment, i feel the texture i added to the shirt was maybe a bit to much, i feel it detracted attention from the face, and more importantly, the tattoo. i think this example works better.
