here i have experimented with using paper to represent a check pattern of a shirt, a technique i used in my last project :

i then developed on the idea of cut paper using more blocky chunks. i think this style is more effective as it gives a more defined and recognisable shape of clothing. i also think the combination of bold colour against the monochrome face makes the 2 elements (clothing and figures) stand out from each other, providing focal points.
