line task

we were asked to select 3 drawing tools, fine, medium and bold, with these we had to produce a number of different lines with them and from each line we created, recreate them again but in light, medium and bold.

we were also asked to think of a theme to do with the author we had picked and from that theme choose 3 motifs (tangible things) that could be used to illustrate the theme.
potential themes:
imagination
victorian childhood
dreams
nonsense
insomnia
story telling
lost childhood
the theme i chose was 'lost childhood' as this links to how Carroll had a big family and had to take a more careing role as a elder child, therefore missed out on the innocence of being a irresponsible child.
the motifs i chose:
victorian man - to show he's age.

calendar, diarys - to represent the passing of time

teddy bear - to represent childhood
from these motifs, we then had to create line drawings using the lines we made with the 3 different drawing tools.
this was quite challenging as you had to experiment with which lines would go to together and which would not. as i would normally just use the same line to create a drawing but use it in a light or bold manner to create depth,  the strictness off the task forced me to consider a drawing style i would not usually bother to experiment with, and allowed me to see different types of lines mixed togethers can create depth, and texture and also is a handy way to differentiate between materials you are trying to convey e.g. book pages and book backs.
