adding colour
from the reference image i wanted to pick out the colours that were most prominent to focus on.
i really like this technique of using 'explosions' of colour and then working detail on-top to create a recognisable shape/product. when finding out our new task was based on colour i thought this was a perfect opportunity to experiment with a similar technique.
i firstly started out with just adding 2 marks of brusho paint to paper, i then added the figure drawings on-top. i really the idea of how a shape/mark can have no relevant or recognition but when combined with other marks/lines or is outlined can be made into something recognisable. e.g.- the splashes now look like clothing due to the marks and lines added around them (the figures)
adding detail.
here i have added more detail to the clothing as i thought it would make them more recognisable.
i don't think the lines i have added really work, i think i would need to rethink how i apply the detail. i think i could have done it a lot better. i feel the lines would need to be more subtle to make them effective, because they are quite bold and random, they don't seem realistic to the photo reference.
though i liked the colour combination of the skin and the t shirts, i thought that to make the t shirts more prominent and the focal point of the image, i would draw the figures in pencil instead.
i have also slightly altered the colours of the t shirts, i have made the yellow t shirt slightly more orange as blue and orange are complimentary colours, i thought this might add to the aethetics.
outlining the pants- this is a technique i have recently played around with in work for my Context of practice module, i feel this technique cuts done on the detail i would have to add and also makes the illustration different.
adding the colours of the kite- think this draws attention away from the t shirt, i think it would work better if i used the same technique as the trousers to link the illustration together.
as the image i was working on didn't show much depth i experimented with this composition.
i also tried to combine the slash colour with the outline technique i used on the pants of the other image. i thought by taking away the detail of the figures and replacing it will the simple outline technique would focus more attention on the colour/clothing.
this was true but i feel this experiment it lacks visual quality and is not nice to look at, the colours used clash and the black line of the outline is too bold against the colour.
