because i wanted to subtly add a deeper concept within the portrait of Marie curie i thought about a number of ways i could illustrate her life/successes though subtle collage textures. i have played around with creating a polish pattern to incorporate her heritage and adding science and radium symbols to represent her on illustrator.
from my initial sketches i have touched upon the idea of using watercolour to represent a mircocropic view of cancer cells/neoplasms, i thought this would pattern would be subtle enough for viewers to see the pattern as just a dress pattern.
here are some examples of cancer cells under the microscope.
i think these patterns are really beautiful and interesting. i myself would not link the nice pattern to such horrible disease, therefore i think using a pattern like this would be very interesting and ironic.
below i have attempted to add brusho crystals to water. i added puples and red to try and get a similar look to that of the examples of microscopes images above. (as this must be the accurate colour)
they are not as compact and detailed as i had hoped and the crystal bits are not as bold- instead the crystal colour has just spread and dyed the whole sheet.
however there is elements that i can see working from these test sheets, such as the spread of swirled colour,
