illustrator workshop

i looked at my initial concept ideas and decided to play around with using shapes of animals that are related to the cites i had chosen. as i had only really used the pen tool, i traced round a image of a kangaroo with it to produce a vector.
i like the idea of creating postcards with one focal point, or creating simple post cards.

i was still unsure of what concept i wanted to focus my postcards on, this made the illustrator workshop difficult for me as I'm very unexperienced and therefore did not feel i could just sit and play around without knowing exactly what i wanted to do and knowing what i needed help on.

i then used the method we had just learnt to multiple, scaled and love the vector.
to make the design more interesting and tie in to the city (sydney) i used the colour of the flag to fill in the silhouettes.
we had also been taught how to create our own stroke colour/fill, so i used this knowledge to create a star design to fill in a few of the kangaroos to represent the stars in the australian flag.
though i was trying to use all the skills i knew from the workshops, I'm still not happy with any of the designs i am producing as i feel they are not to a professional level and are not as visually interesting as i want or have a/have my tone of voice.

as i liked the idea of combining the colours of the flags in my pieces James showed me a few ways i could do this differently by creating a gradient stroke fill and then applying it to the lines i create.

as i have always liked to create intricate line detail i will play around with creating line vectors or city landmarks with the pen tool and adding this technique to the lines.
