sketching out scene for illustration which required to set the scene of the book

Contextual reference for 1st page which sets the scene

finished illustation
i haven't included the element of scenery in the rest of the illustrations other then the first page, i found this the hardest in terms of composition and each stage of the process was very time consuming.

storyboarding and sketching out scenes was a unnecessary approach for the rest of the illustrations as it was only important for setting the scene and the tone of the environment where the story takes place in this one illustration . The scene should not need to be shown again as the viewer has a starting point on which to build their imagination. The age range for the target audience was older children and adults, so room for imagination was needed.

though this was a timely process, i think i am most proud of this illustration out off all of them as it is a completely new way of working for me- creating made up scenes.
