Time management

i found this module very different from others as my final resolutions has to be created in advance to allow for time to apply them to other formats instead of working on the finals up until the the deadline day.

after speaking to fred on my first tutorial on the 3rd of march i new i needed to narrow down my topic and decide on an end point to work to. - product, range and distribution

to make sure i had sufficient time to spend on the application of my work. i set myself indiviual deadlines and directions early on.

PLAN i have been working to, setting myself targets after each key stage (i.e progress tutorials):-

  • 3rd-10th march  - decide on direction
  • 10th- 17th march (peer review) - collect all photographs to illustrate from.
  • 17th march - 26th march (peer review)- develop and experiment on tone of voice to produce illustrations with.
  • EASTER- 21st April (group tutorials) - draw all illustrations for book pages
  • 21st april - 30th April (progress tutorials) find campaign or charity i can apply my illustrations to to give them a purpose in the real world
  • 30th April- 7th May (digital printing) add illustrations, selected quotes and charity logo to book template on indesign ready to print.
  • 7th May - 8th of May (final crit) create 3 presentations boards presenting my work and bring in final book to be crited.
  • 8th May - 14th May (deadline) project report (featuring 750 summative evaluation), touch up blog of the profession of  the module, print off post cards to a professional level to hand in alongside book to show another physical format.
realistic workload
at the beginning of the module i underestimated how much time i would need to produce what i was purposing, making my project/brief very broad. after speaking to tutors i have learnt to set my self realistic  goals with my workload, this has allowed me to produce work in a less stressful manner which i feel has given me more time to produce to a more professional standard because i have allowed myself the time to develop, alter and perfect my existing work after each tutorial, peer review and crit.

final portrait advertisment development

development of applying my illustrations to Train station billboard

sadly, the samaritans can deal with people who are experiencing with suicidal thoughts, therefore i have thought of places these people may to end there life such as train stations.
placing a advertisement about the samaritans on the train tracks may will hopefully reach out to these people and make them reconsider ending there life and ring the samaritans for help.

adding personal information to book.

thinking about this book being used in the real world, i have added my personal details to the back/last page of  the booklet along with the charities logo. i think this is a ideal way to promote my work without overshadowing the concept and purpose of the book - to advertise a samaritans campaign. also, as i enjoy producing work about real issue and personal/sensitive subjects, this publication would hopefully be seen by charity or organisations similar to samaritans who  may want to consider me/my work for there own advertisements.

creating campaign title

towards the beginning of this project my aim was to create illustrations that captured unnoticed moments, however after deciding on applying them to the samaritans charity, i was unsure weather this would still be an appropriate name. i dabbled on the title:-
  •  'your not alone'
  • 'you are noticed'
  • 'you are special'
  • ' 'the everyman'
i thought these title would reassure viewers that are feeling alone and venerable that they are not the only ones and they have support. calling the book 'everyman' would reinforce the idea of the 'ordinary' denoting that everybody has bad days, and everybody can feel isolated or negative about life - but would viewers presume this was addressed at men?

after much to'ing and throwing, i decided to stick with the title unnoticed moments. i realised that this title is still relvent becuase my concept is make people see and appreciate moments in there life they are perhaps taking for granted or forgetting about when times are hard. i also think this title is condescending to the context of the book as these moments have been captured and not gone unnoticed. making people feel worthwhile and seen by someone.

i wanted a delicate font for the campaign title but could not find the perfect one from the font choses. i decided to write the title myself to add to the personal element of my concept.
'

to emphasise my concept that 'you' are not noticed i have added a line through the word unnoticed to cross out the theory that a person or there feelings do not matter or are unnoticed.

Final crit feedback

5A7: Demonstrate an informed understanding of issues relating to media, communication, audience and context through the delivery of solutions to brief led problems or clearly identified creative concerns.

strengths: clearly identified challenged to overcome when illustrating (your own and the samaritans)

5A8: Understand the potential and limitations of technologies and processes used in the production of illustration for 2d, 3d and/or 4d distribution

strengths:
you've acknowledged where work for samaritans would sit in the real world - plenty of mock-ups outside of the main book

5B5: Analyse and critically evaluate the impact of social, cultural, technological and/or ethical concerns on the development of solutions to problems relevant to individual creative concerns.

strengths:
loads of outdoor research, research into samaritans. you've considered these all the way through which is great.

5C6: Explore and apply a range of appropriate practical and conceptual approaches to self-determined ideas, concepts, solutions/proposals in response to own identified intentions and relevant practices

strengths:
well documented and evaluated on the blog.

5C7: Produce technically competent and conceptually appropriate outcomes to identified problems through the selection and application of visual skills.

strengths:
you're visual choices communicate your themes and research perfectly! -worked with a graphic designer to make the most out of hype and layout - has benefited you exponentially!
use of overplayed imagery with our photorealistic style makes for 'double' exposure effect reminiscent of photography -teamed with the black + white/grey themes allows for beautiful tone and feelings of nostalgia.

Discussion feedback and notes:

write about personal time management  -own deadlines
                                                                - amount work load because of deadline/ realistic time left.

make sure to label development work (loose sheets) as visual journal.
blog own photography and wills photography

consider sending campaign idea and work to the samaritans.
creating a fundraiser with the campaign :-
profit off it will go towards charity aswell as me.

think this could be a path of the way i like to work - real world/social problems - reportage.
