childrens book development.

'next he went to the sweet shop. 'do you sell toffee apples' he asked the man in the shop 'oh yes', replied the man, 'i make them myself' and he showed the beggar some toffee apples about the size of a real apple.'
the intial scan of the illustration needs a background to distinguish the sweet jars from the wall so i added a digital colour.

experimenting with digitally multiplying drawing to create a more detailed and fully representation of a sweet shop.
though i am using the same technique as the other illustrations i have been producing for this brief, this illustration just doesn't seem strong enough or have as much visual quality and i cant put my finger on why as i have spend a lot of time on it.
i think the digital colouring distracts from the hand rendered quality.

i played around with adding more detail to the sweets in the jars and the shelves they sit on. i think this looks better then the original illustrations, but i'm still not 100% happy.
i have used fine liner to add the detail to the sweets as colour pencils were not giving me enough detail or contrast, i have not really used fine liner in the other illustrations so i'm also worried that this illustration will look like the odd one out and the illustration wont exist a consistent whole.
